Just curious if anyone has ever fished Holts Pond (the huge pond the goes under Hwy 70 when you get into Smithfield). Is it a private pond? Is there anyone I can contact for permission to fish out of my kayak? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

My buddy Mike couldn't go today, so me and Zach took Maggie Mae for a little pre-birthday fishing trip. She turns 9 years old tomorrow. I told her we could fish for anything she wanted to from trout to crappie to stripers to cats and she said she wanted to go catfishing. Got to the lake about 6am and caught enough bait for a day of fishing easy enough. Ran up the river and set up in our first hole. Took a bit, but finally got Maggie on her first fish of the day. Had our big rods set out and hooked her up with one of my crappie rods and let her bottom bounce for a while catching bream, perch, and cats off and on all day. She ended up with 17 by herself . . . just ask her. LOL Zach saw a fish jump up right behind the boat and something about it being a bass. I looked at one of his rods and told him that he had a fish on . . . ended up being the bass he saw juming. It came off of cut bait. LOL Picked away at them there for a while then headed up to the dam and fished up there for a bit. Got on em pretty good for a while there and met a few guys who are on here as well. I'm terrible with names so hopefully they'll chime in here too. Caught us a little more bait up at the dam and moved to our last hole around 11:30 am. Sat there till 1:30 and only picked up 2 15lbrs. All in all a good day. Bait was easy enough and we caught about 22-25 catfish (not counting Maggie's mixed bag she caught "all by herself") that ranged from 2 lbs. to about 25 being the biggest, and several n the mid to upper teens. Water color was pretty good all the way up to the dam and forgive me for not thinking to look at the water temp. Nice to meet and talk to the guys we met too. Fun day.
Once the sun came up the bite got a little tougher to pull a fish! We caught our limit before 8 o clock, mainly on topwater. No monsters but mainly all 1.5 pound each, Finally started culling after that. We pulled up on some schooling fish and were able to cull some of the fish out! But overall it was a fun day on the lake! Thought we had a 10+ pound bass till it came to be a catfish haha!

I'm hoping you guys will offer some advice. I am brand new to the world of boating and recently bought a 20' cuddy cabin for some fishing in Cape Hatteras. I've been surf and pier fishing those waters for years but now will try my hand from the boat, (due to the beach closures and to give us some elbow room) My plans are to fish the sound and within a few miles of the beach on calm days and am hoping you guys will point me in the right direction of how to get started.

I plan to bottom fish and troll, most of our trips down there are in the summer months, this year particularly in the middle of June.

Thanks,

I am wanting to know the meaning of the statement "14-inch minimum, except that 2 may be less than 14 inches and no bass between 16-20 inches may be possessed".

The "between 16-20 inches" is in question. If the fish touches 16 inches is it a keeper or a slot? If the fish touches the 20 inch line is it a keeper or a slot?

Curious on the different takes by the anglers. My read; if it touches 16 out to touch 20 it is a slot fish and must be tossed back. I have sent a note to NC DNR and they did acknowledge they are working on getting me an answer. I have read so many different posts or hear different opinions, just thought I would post to get a couple of more takes on the wording.

i know its the last weekend before DH season ends, but im thinking if the weather is nice of hitting some wild streams that i havent fished before, or maybe some i have.

I havent fished the South Toe, but looks like a good option. Anyone fished up there recently? I saw a post from 4/17 that someone was going, but didnt see a TR.

Ive fished Upper Wilson area, and N Harper, etc, but never jumped on Lost Cove. How is that?
