I took the yak up to Kerr Lake this morning. I went in search of stripers but no love there. I did manage to catch something to make the 3am alarm clock worth it though.Caught on a 4" brim 20' down in 35 FOW near a hump. He (or possibly another fish) would tap tap tap, half pulldown/release, tap tap tap, half pulldown/release. This was bad on my nerves but finally one pulldown kept on going until the rod was doubled over and then it was game on. Pretty good fight. Line was 20 lb mono with 17 lb flouro leader.
I didn't have my scales with me but it's my best blue cat for sure. I'm thinking 25-30 lbs? Guesstimates on weight requested. My biggest previous blue was 15.5 lbs and this one was significantly bigger. Just his head would have filled up a big dinner plate.
